OSIER Island on the Avon near Pershore has been sold at auction for £280,000—50% more than the expected price.

The bidding for the attractive island started at £150,000, and there was even a bid for £285,000, but this was later withdrawn, with the island now the property of one, Dan Simpson, who bid through his solicitor, not being at the auction himself, Alan Tilbury tells us.

No facilities

There are no facilities on the island, but the former owner, Helen Osborne used solar panels for electricity and tanks to collect rain water, with waste water draining into a soak-away.

The buyer told that he was attracted by the problems, and is even thinking of getting married there

There were more than 100 viewings of the island before the auction by boat, as of course it is the only means of access.
