IT WAS a good Discovery Day indeed for the Grantham Canal Society—its sixth annual one.

Held last weekend in glorious weather, with plenty of displays and activities that raised a considerable sum towards the canal's restoration, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Visited stands

The proceedings were opened by Nick Boles, MP for Grantham and Stamford, who spoke of the work that all the volunteers had put in to make it a success, then paid a visit to all the various stands at the show.

The stands included local goods and projects, and all manner of things, with live entertainment provided by Rovin' Ron and folk singer Gary
Cadwallader. The displays included the Lancashire Clog Dancers, the Maids of Clifton and Allington Morris dancers.

Boat trips

There were of course boat trips on the restored section by the Three Shires together with guided walks to visit Woolsthorpe Middle Lock that was being restored.

It all ended with a duck race on the waterway, with around 250 plastic ducks vying with each other, cheered on by the crowd.
