I READ the recent article and share James Henry's concern that we need a strong association to represent all boaters, write Mark Tizard, Vice Chairman of the National Association of Boat Owners (NABO).

I suspect many boaters share this view but how many actually do more than sit behind their keyboards. If you are concerned about the fabric of the canal system and its users I would strongly strongly suggest that boaters consider join a boating association that best fits their interests and actively support them by contributing to the dialogue with association members and CaRT.

The reality

The reality is that attending meetings, producing NABO News, obtaining legal advice etc etc costs money and more importantly time. NABO membership costs £25 a year, all Council members are volunteers and give their time for free. For much less than the cost of being a friend of CaRT we believe this is good value but like any association we really need your time and enthusiasm rather than your money.

Should you decide to join NABO you have access to our website and regular issues of NABO News, monthly email updates etc. If you just want a free site then have a look and feel free to contribute to NABO's Facebook site.
