It was way back in August that the lift bridge failed, though it had been occasionally opened by crane to allow boat passage, the reason being that engineers were waiting for parts to repair the structure, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Real reason
At the time CaRT told first that is was closed for essential maintenance then told that it was closed for repair, the latter being the real reason, as essential parts operating the bridge had failed.
The bridge however has been subject to failure, ourselves once being caught in a stoppage there, when again it needed a crane to left the bridge to allow boats to pass underneath. The picture was taken at that time, with the chain connected to the crane being seen at the top of the picture.
However, it is now working again, with all restrictions lifted.
