THE Macclesfield Canal is closed by a 'leak' once again, both the navigation and the towpath.

This is between Woods Bridge (30) and Higherfold Bridge (33) where the waterway leaves Macclesfield and enters Bollington, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Third 'leak'

This is the third 'leak', as Canal & River Trust now prefers to call breaches, this year, with  a 'leak' in May near Bollington, with its repair closing the canal for three weeks, but it was a botched job, as later in June it leaked again, with the navigation once more having to be closed.

At that time the Peak Forest Canal was also closed due to a failed lock gate, with the Trust admitting that around 200 boats were trapped by the closures.

LATEST:

There has been a temporary stoppage of the leak, for later repair, so the navigation is now open.
