THOUGH Plank Lane Lift Bridge has been broken since early August, its repair is expected to finally be undertaken during the week commencing Monday 3rd October.

The repair is expected to take all week, and during this time it will however be open to navigation, though boaters are advised there can be up to two hours waiting, Keith Gudgin tells us.

History of failures

The lift bridge has had an history of failures, this last time, two months being the longest, though there has been passage at 2pm daily.

The picture was taken during the time we were caught by one of its failures, waiting with others until the then British Waterways team came to allow us through. The chain attached to a crane, that lifted the bridge, can be seen on the top of the photograph.
