STAINTON Aqueduct on the Lancaster Canal has suffered structural damage and is safeguarded by a dam, closing off the waterway.

The aqueduct below Kendal was closed due to the 'effect of the poor weather' on the 23rd December, but as this is part of the upper reaches of the waterway it is really only accessible by canoes.

Closed

Dams have beeninstalled to safeguard the aqueduct and that the waterway was closed until further notice.

We are not told of the actual damage, only that a team will be developing an action plan and a programme to repair the aqueduct, with no intimation of time scale.
