There are times when it is advisable to use the centre line and these include moorings that have soft ground and no Armco piling to safely use.Helps prevent movement
Where CaRT have not provided bollards or rings correctly spaced out, as in Braunston for example, it helps to prevent forward and aft movement when boats pass at cruising speed or more, since there is no possibility of putting a spring line on either.
I have seen many instances of boats 'moored' with only a centre line—that is just stupid!
