OXFORD City councillor Elizabeth Wade, wanting Canal & River Trust to clean off the graffiti from its canal bridges in the city, met with a refusal.

A representative of the Trust told her that they had not the manpower to clean off graffiti and she should get volunteers to do the job, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Unsightly mess

It was the Oxford Mail that had disclosed that there are over 1,000 cases of graffiti in the city, with members of the public complaining of the unsightly mess.

It seems to be the policy nowadays to leave the cleaning of graffiti from bridges to volunteers.
