Woman fights off towpath attacker

A YOUNG woman fought off an attacker as she was walking the towpath of the St. Helen's Canal, after he tried to snatch her handbag.

It was a 'hoody' who tried to steal the 20 years old woman's handbag near the bridge leading to St. Helen's Retail Park, but she struck out at him, using her bag as a weapon, and the man ran off.

Being near a busy retail park the police are keen to find the man, knowing that there were potential witnesses around the area, and are hoping they will come forward.
