THE WORCESTER & BIRMINGHAM CANAL and towpath is closed by a fallen tree in the waterway at Shortwood Tunnel West Portal.
This occurred on the 1st of May during a storm but no work has been undertaken for its removal as the landowner did not agree to the draft agreement so all is at a standstill, Keith Gudgin reports.
Then the bird nesting time came with birds building their nests in the fallen tree so then nothing could be done.
No agreement reached
No land agreement has been reached, and discussions with the relevant parties are still ongoing, with Canal & River Trust unable to remove the tree. though it is attempting to work toward a resolution.
The landslide caused trees and mud to fall into the canal at Shortwood Tunnel West Portal, on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal. As a result, the navigation and towpath had to be closed along this section.
There is no confirmed timeline for the reopening as unfortunately, the landowner did not agree to the draft agreement that was proposed last year.
