Wasting money stating the obvious

OUR home waters are the top end of the Shroppie and we are familiar with 24 or 48 hours mooring signs, writes Jenny MacGillivray.

Starting our summer cruise and heading South for the Thames we started seeing less familiar three day, five and even seven days mooring signs.

No advantage

That struck me as quite thoughtful, there are times when you need a few extra days to get on with a bit of on-going maintenance. However we then came across signs that said we could stop for 14 days without charge. These seemed to be on lengths of bank without rings or any other advantage.

Now this has me very puzzled, I thought that we could moor anywhere on the towing path side for 14 days without charge unless it was signed otherwise. Why waste money stating the obvious? Or have I missed out on something? A dastardly plot to keep continuous and extended cruisers on the move?
