WITH work on Camden Lock on the Regents Canal in London now in progress, the opportunity is being used to allow the public into the chamber to see how it works.

At the weekend, visitors will have the chance to venture into the bottom of the drained lock chamber, the first of the city's locks to be so opened to the public.

13 locks

With the success of former such public displays, Canal & River Trust (CaRT) intend to open 13 more drained locks for the public to inspect, normally at weekends when work has stopped.

The repairs to the many locks are of course part of the winter stoppage programme
