Stolen boat found

THE narrowboat Samshiba that was stolen from its moorings at Kegworth on the Soar has been found, repainted and with other alterations—on the Fossdyke.

When a narrowboat is stolen it is hard to believe that it can have got far. Not I'm afraid the case as the finding of Samshiba, stolen it is thought in the early hours of Tuesday 7th May from its moorings at Kegworth on the river Soar will prove, writes Pam Pickett.

Professionally repainted

She was found yesterday (Saturday 11th) on the Fosdyke with the name scratched off, the back cleats ground off and with some alterations to the roof. The ex Black Prince hire boat had been professionally repainted, re-blacked and had new anodes fitted.

Alterations had, and were continuing to be made to the interior of the boat.

Police were I'm told approached by a woman claiming the boat to be hers and who advised she'd amazingly purchased this boat for a mere £7000 for she and her daughters to live on.

Though manned locks

Although there are further facts yet to emerge the owner of Samshiba is now faced with a virtually ruined boat and I have to ask CaRT how on earth this boat, given all of the hue and cry managed to negotiate manned locks to reach the Fossdyke without being apprehended and before so much damage could be done? I'm sure the owner will be very interested to hear CaRT's response, as no doubt will a good many boaters, including myself!
