Lives in danger

NOTWITHSTANDING one person dying after leaping into the Dee at Chester from the suspension bridge, others are still doing it.

During the recent hot weather a group of teenagers leaped from Queen's Park Suspension Bridge into the water, risking their lives, not only from drowning but from hitting a boat that could be passing underneath, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Met his death

It was just a few years ago that 19 years old David Clarkson met his death after jumping from the bridge, hitting something under water and not coming to the surface. His body was discovered later.

There was then a demand for signs, that were erected, but of course these are ignored, and teenagers still jump from the bridge in warm weather.

During the summer  the authorities patrol the water both by boat and on the banks, as jumping from the bridge is an offence.
