Fight against proposed marina

THE company attempting to gain planning permission to construct a Marina at Swindon on the Staffs & Worcs Canal are meeting a great deal of local opposition.

The original proposal for a 252 berths marina was submitted in 2009, but there were more than 200 objections, so this this was cut down to 200 berths, and the plans resubmitted late in 2010, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Upped the number

But then the developers upped the number again, this time to 236 berths, that was turned down by the planning authority but then upheld on appeal.

But the local residents are objecting, with it being stated that many residents are opposed, though some traders are not. The campaign to prevent the marina being built is including the increased risk of flooding and poor road access.

The plans include the normal marina facilities.
