Not a 'Welcher' says Gilbertson

FOLLOWING the revelation (IWA disowns Welch—narrowboatworld 25/1/2013) that Jo Gilbertson,  had a wager with a boater that 80% of those without home moorings were continuous moorers, he has been in touch to say that he was unable to substantiate his claim, writes Allan Richards.

Jo, Inland Waterways Association Campaigns and Communications Manager, who has resigned, tells us that he paid up!

Lost it

Jo says that the figure was given to him by 'someone in British Waterways' and he made a £10 wager with liveaboard boater, Peter MacDonald, that he could substantiate it. He says he 'paid the bet as I clearly lost it'.

He adds, perhaps with a sly poke at a particular trustee 'I may be many things but I don't welch on my bets'. He confirms that Peter MacDonald asked that the money be given to the Waterways Recovery Group.

Two very honourable men, it seems.
