Dowley Gap sinking

IT NEEDED two fire crews from Bingley and Keighley to refloat a sunken narrowboat at Dowley Gap on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal on Thursday.

The fire crews were called out as the boat took on water by Dowley Gap Locks in the early afternoon, Allan Richards tells us.

Escaped

The two people living on the boat managed to escape as it went down, and then it needed the two fire crews, each with pumping equipment to pump the water from the boat to raise it.

Both fuel and oil escaped into the waterway, but were dealt with by Canal & River Trust before they spread.

The owners are attempting to find out the cause of the boat sinking, that caused a great deal of damage, with the interior having been immersed in muddy water.
