A FLOATING village could be constructed in Grangemouth on the Forth & Clyde Canal as part of a multi-millions pound investment in Scotland's canals.

It is the Scottish Government that has pledged to invest £4.6 million in the waterways infrastructure over the next two years. This is in addition to £10 million grant-in-aid already announced for Scottish Canals.

Residential moorings

The Grangemouth plan is just a part of the investment, that could see many residential moorings with all the facilities for people on boats as part of the Living on Water campaign.

Of the grant, Steve Dunlop, Scottish Canals Chief Executive, enthused:

"We plan to build on the tremendous success of the past decade and this funding will be used to advance a wide range of highly ambitious, yet achievable, projects that will take Scotland's canals forward into a bright new future."
