IWA and the breach

AS PETER EARLY recently stated. The Inland Waterways Association has 17,216 members, all of whom were emailed prior to the CaRT elections. The result was that all IWA nominations were elected, writes Peter Ponting.

However he does state that not all members are boat owners? That does pose the question? Did the then British Waterways, send voting forms to all IWA members?

So now we have five representatives of IWA on the CaRT committee.

The breach

IWA's opening line on its literature states 'Campaigning for the use, maintenance, and restoration of Britain's inland waterways'.

Then, as soon as the breaches appear on the canal network last year, it agreed with CaRT to launch an appeal.

If you look at one of the less expensive ways of joining IWA via the single electronic membership at £25.20 per annum x 17,216 = £433,843.20.  Peter also states that their are 28,805 licence holders. Now lets be liberal and say £600 per licence. That is £17,283,000 annually going to CaRT

Combine the two £17,716,843.20.

And the governing body at CaRT want people to send them money, when by their neglect through lack of maintenance they have caused it, so is entirely their own doing, beggars belief.

Perhaps IWA should put its money where its mouth is.
