Email: Not only boaters

Please correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that boaters and restoration societies are not the only people paying for the upkeep of the canal system.

There are many businesses canalside which pay substantial rents to Canal & River Trust. If those businesses hire out boats they also pay substantial license fees.

The holiday trade is not unimportant in keeping the canal system going. I notice that the term 'boaters' usually tends not to include hirers though, again, perhaps I am wrong in my perception of this.
