George's—a dangerous precedent

I was surprised when I saw this commercial operation [George's] take over the old lock-keeper's hut at the bottom of the Audlem Flight, writes Chris Smith.

To me it set a dangerous precedent. Since opening, this business has spread out alongside the lock, it often looks untidy and has a generator running all day.

Requisite low temperature

I doubt the frozen meat is kept at the requisite low temperature all the time as they must either leave the freezers off at night or transfer the food to and from freezers elsewhere.

It is hardly a much-needed asset as there are good visitor moorings in Audlem and a good range of shops including independent ones just as worthy of support from passing boaters. It would be nice to think that this can be looked at objectively instead of whipping up a knee-jerk reaction. There are two sides to every story; not everyone thinks this shop is an asset.
