THE popular Stratford River Festival continues to grow, attracting more visitors, boats and traders than ever before and, luckily for this year, the weather stayed dry throughout the weekend, writes John Glock.
With free entry to the Recreation Ground, opposite the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, this fantastic site saw nearly 40,000 people enjoy live music all weekend, a craft village, a real ale tent and other drinks outlets, a family fun area, a wide selection of excellent food outlets, river demonstrations and over 100 boats of all types moored on the Avon.
Pirates Day
Saturday was 'Pirates Day' and many people dressed up and enjoyed the fun with actors in character helping to get visitors into the spirit of the day
Ruth Wood, Project Manger for the River Festival commented:
"We set out to put Stratford firmly on the summer festival map and, this weekend, we did just that."
Several competitions were held including asking the public to judge the best boat, a treasure trail around the town of Stratford upon Avon and a best illuminated boat competition which preceded the spectacular firework display at 10.30pm on Saturday night.
