A SHORT extension from the existing Forth & Clyde Canal to a new sea lock on the Carron and a lift bridge at Falkirk will cost £13.5m.

The contract has now been awarded to Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering for the work that is part of the £41m Helix Project in Scotland.  The new canal extension and the new sea lock will give longer access times between the canal and tidal water.

This includes two more 30m high Kelpies, that depict mythical water horses, with the contract already awarded to a North Yorkshire company.

The Helix is a regeneration scheme on waste land between Falkirk and Grangemouth turning it into parkland with visitor attractions and 'woodland enhancements'.
