No boats at Reading Waterfest

Published: Thursday, 14 June 2012

THOUGH it has been decided today, Thursday, that Reading Waterfest held on the Kennet & Avon Canal in the town will have no boats due to a flooded Kennet, the show will go on.

Both County Lock (pictured in more normal times) and Fobney Lock are flooded after the heavy rain, with the river impassable preventing any boats getting to the show this week-end, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Water festival on land

So it will become a water festival held on land, with no best dressed boat competition nor trips on the waterway. Instead the event will be restricted to stalls, that will not be along the towpath, but moved to Forbury Gardens where the performance stage and children's activities are being held.

The event is organised by the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust and Reading Council.
