Restrictions stop Boxmoor Festival

THE restrictions on the Grand Union Canal have been blamed for the cancellation of Boxmoor Festival, that is expected to be the first of many.

The organisers, Wendover Arm Trust, despite repeated calls for boats and stall holders, have decided to cancel after very few came forward, being put off by the prospect of the Grand Union Canal being closed. Alan Tilbury reveals.

Little attraction

Boaters worried about the closures have not taken up the moorings, and neither have enough exhibitors come forward, realising that the restrictions already in force could get worse, and would see little attraction for the public to visit.

The organisers have been told by British Waterways that there were not going to be any canal closures, but it seems this is just not believed, especially as it has already announced closure after Easter of part of the Grand Union Canal.

Fund raiser

The event was scheduled to run from the 3rd to 5th of June, and is the trust's main fund raiser.

It would be appreciated that when events that are published in our Events Calendar are cancelled, the organisers let us know, so they can be removed, it being only fair to prospective visitors.
