Wigan Pier for sale—again

Published: Saturday, 10 March 2012

THE noise levels being created by the revellers in the famous Wigan Pier pub, that is a well known night club, caused it to be closed, but it is on the market again.

The thump, thump, from the night club came to a head at Christmas after numerous complaints that it was spoiling the quality of peoples lives, so the environmental protection people closed it down, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Commercial uses

The lease, owned by Thwaites Brewery, is being offered for sale, but not particularly as a pub, as the owners believe the 40 years old building could have other commercial uses.

Before it was closed a limit to the decibel units of the sound was agreed, that solved the problem, but the patrons did not care for the muted sound so went elsewhere, hence its closure.

Capital investment

Though the building is being marketed as 'historic', it is hardly so, having been built in the 70s. In an attempt to sell, it is being offered on a flexible lease, with the owners willing to offer capital investment for a possible change of use.

During the 90's when the popularity of the Pier was at its height it was attracting big crowds as a rave venue, being one of the town's most popular attractions.
