Drunk stuck in waterway

IT WAS the fire brigade that had to rescue a man who had fallen into the Calder & Hebble at Sowerby Bridge.

The service received a call that someone had fallen in after drinking in Bridge's Bar just after midnight on Saturday morning, and was 'intoxicated', Alan Tilbury reports.

Unable to climb out

He was stuck in the water up to the waist, and was unable to climb out.  The firefighters donned wet suits are were able to drag him out, onto the towpath where he was treated by paradmedics.

A police officer stated the man was intoxicated and had fallen off the nearby bridge into the water.
