IT IS not only resident boaters and boating visitors who are up in arms over the drastic increase in licences on the Cam, but rowers too have joined in the battle.

The rowing community, backed by the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association have joined with the Camboaters in decrying the Conservators of the River Cam, stating they are 'unelected and undemocratic', Alan Tilbury reveals.

Raise fees for rowers

For not only do the Conservators proposed to increase fees for the boaters, in some instances by 21.5% but also intend to raise registration fees for rowing craft. They also intend to charge fees on events held on the river, including rowing competitions.

In a letter to the the local newspaper, the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association, stated that it wholeheartedly agreed with the Camboaters, that the Conservators are unelected and undemocratic.

It believes the local councils involved, and the Environment Agency through its duty to provide flood prevention, should be making contributions to what is an asset for residents.
