Bath bridge repairs

OWING to pressure from various organisations Bath Council are being forced to repair the corroded structure of Victoria Bridge over the Avon at Bath.

The bridge has been closed for a year, but it is a pedestrian way to schools and the new Bath development, but the council has agreed to start work on replacing the corroded structure so it can be re-opened.

Towpath closed

However, the Avon towpath under the bridge has been closed, and will remain so until it is deemed safe.

The listed bridge was closed by Bath and North East Somerset Council just over a year ago as the  cables and beams had become corroded, and it is expected it will be summer when the work will be completed.

The idea of a temporary bridge was discussed but found too expensive.
