Canal corridor ideas wanted

STROUD Town Council has launched a forum to decide what to do with the land by the side of the Stroudwater Navigation when it is finally restored.

The forum was launched by Stroud MP Neil Carmichael together with various stakeholders to discuss what might happen to the land beside the waterways when it was restored, Alan Tilbury reports.

Stimulate investment

The MP's aide, Debbie Young related:

"The district council is leading the project to dig the channel but the forum is about what else happens. There are all sorts of things we need to talk about, to start looking at what land could be identified to stimulate investment.

"The whole idea is to look at the whole of the canal corridor."

Anyone interested in joining the debate can do so by contacting Neil Carmichael's office at Palace Chambers in London Road, Stroud.

British Waterways pulled out of the scheme to restore the Cotswold Canals, of which this is part, so have no jurisdiction in the matter.
