Yobs sink boat with hosepipe

IT IS amazing what yobs will do to damage boats, with the latest being the use of an hosepipe to fill a boat with water until it sank.

One of the Pennine Cruiser narrowboats Leo was deliberately filled with water by an hosepipe and sunk at its berth on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Flooded

The people at the company arrived at the premises at Skipton on Tuesday (11th October) to find one of its trip boats submerged, with an hosepipe fed into it with the water turned on and the boat flooded.

It had obviously been purposely sunk by vandals, as a nearby hosepipe had been wound out with its end in the boat with water pouring in.

Deliberately targeted

One of the owners of the company pointed out that the hosepipe had been stretched to its maximum to reach the boat, so it was deliberately targeted.  However, having the necessary pumps on hand, the boat was soon re-floated and cleaned-out. The stove was lit to get rid of the damp and the engine stripped then filled with new oil, and again ready for business.

Without CCTV or fingerprint evidence, the police are relying on members of the public having seen something suspicious after 10pm on the Monday night and reporting it.
