THREE times in three days firefighters were called to rescue horses which had become stuck in waterways around Worcester.

There was one foundering in the Severn near Severn Stoke, then another in the Severn at Upton-upon-Severn, then another in the Staffs & Worcs Canal at Cookley near Kidderminster.

Fire crews from three different stations attended the rescues, with a rescue boat having to be used for one of the horses in the Severn.

A spokesman for the Droitwich fire service that attended one rescue asked that people make sure their horses are safe with their fields properly fenced, otherwise they could lose their animals should they not be spotted in the water.
