Four 'quickies' end the week
IT'S THE end of the week so repairs get finished quickly it seems.
This week is no exception with repairs completed and navigations reopened as Keith Gudgin reports.
Thorne Lock on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal has had contractors on site and the work finished with the navigation open, and a 'quickie'.
Not so quick
Not so quick with the broken cill on Lock 51 on the Barrowford Flight though as it was a broken cill that closed the flight.
But it is now repaired with the flight now open.
Another 'quickie' with the New Junction Canal at Sykehouse Road bridge (pictured) repaired in a single day with its fault rectified.
And yet another 'quickie' with Lock 17 on the Rochdale Canal with a malfunction preventing proper closure. Again finished in a day.
Couple of closures
But alas a couple of closures, with the Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line having another stoppage this time at Bulholme Lock 10 at Castleford.
Not broken however, but closed owing to the closure of Ferrybridge Flood Lock—which it would seem is the culprit.
Another closure is on Tyrley Flight on the Shropshire Union, that certainly does not look like being a 'quickie', as the cill needs urgent repairs with the gate then needing to be refitted.
Canal & River Trust tell the navigation will not be closed however until Monday 20th May.
