Swimmer could have Weil's Disease

THOUGH many people swim our waterways to raise money for charity, it is a risky business.

There is always the possibility of contacting Weil's Disease from rat urine in the water, and David Walliams who has just swum the 140 miles of the Thames has developed the classic symptoms—fever, and extreme muscle and joint pain.

Tested

He is now in the process of being tested for the disease, which attacks vital organs, and is often fatal as there is no known serum for treatment.  David has been suffering since completing his 140 miles swim, with the first signs being the sudden fever, the diarrhoea and the rash.  He is being tested in London.

It is believed that double Olympic gold medal winner Andy Holmes, who died last October was a victim of the disease.
