Seven hours battle with cows

IT TOOK firefighters seven hours to get two cows out of the Severn after they had fallen into the water.

It was workmen on the bank that raised the alarm after seeing the two cows fall into the river, with the fire service being called, but it took many hours to get them out, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Not cooperating

A rescue boat was launched, and the crew attempted to nudge the animals back to dry land, but though they managed to eventually get one back on the bank, the other was not cooperating.

It was a total of seven hours later that the cow, who was by then completely exhausted gave up the battle, and was pulled out of the river.

It seems one fell in then the other one came to investigate, and also fell in.
