THERE is curiosity surrounding the case of a drowned man in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Leeds on Saturday.

Jan Swindlehurst, was found dead in the waterway, but a man was seen wading into the canal at the same location as that where the body was found, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Attempting a rescue

The police understand that the man was perhaps attempting a rescue but the water was too deep, and want to interview him to discover the circumstances.

The drowned man had been seen driving his mobility scooter along the towpath in the early afternoon, but it was not in the water. There were several witnesses who reported seeing another man wading in the canal at the scene, who then clambered out and walked away.
