Doubts over Ware Festival

WITH the dates for the restrictions of boat movements on the Lee due to the Olympics, there is doubt about boaters being able to reach the Ware Festival next year on the 12th July.

Town councillors have expressed concerns that the Olympics could seriously disrupt its big event in 2012 should the boating restrictions be in force, that would cut-off the Lee from the rest of the waterway system, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Permission

In addition, British Waterways has confirmed that boaters will need permission to move on the river around Ware, which will put great stress on the number of boats that could attend the festival.

Waterway manager Jon Guest warned:

"Boaters should be aware that British Waterways is working with the security organisations in and around the Olympic Park as required. We will, of course, be following their instruction and working to support them, to help ensure the Olympics are a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

"This will have the effect of imposing restrictions past the Olympic Park on the Lee from a date that is yet to be agreed but, once these restrictions are in place, passage up and down the Lee will only be by pre-booking.
