Trent lock hours cut

THE hours of lock keepers on the Trent are being cut this season as part of the overall cuts by British Waterways.

Though the lock keepers will be on duty at 9.30, they will only be in attendance up to 5.30pm instead of 6pm. This does not apply to the locks off the tidal Trent.

A spokesperson explained:

"We have not taken this decision lightly and understand it will cause some annoyance and disruption, but in view of reduced national budgets a cut in overtime has been necessary. I trust you will appreciate this is only a small reduction in hours against a backdrop of much bigger cuts.
