FOXTON FLIGHT on the Leicester Section  is set to be temporarily reopened, but only for a week.

It being closed due to low water since July and chained-up, Janet Friend reports.

Open for a week

Canal & River Trust tell the flight will be open for a week between 27th October the 2nd November.

foxton flight 2With a spokesman from the trust explaining the reservoir levels were still well below what would be normally expected for this time of the year and adding:

"We're really pleased that recent rainfall has at least allowed us to reopen locks for a short period and enable boaters to get to where they need to be ahead of winter.

"While recent wet weather has been very welcome, it's not been enough to make up for the prolonged dry weather we've experienced for the majority of the year."

Reservoirs well below

Reservoirs are still well below what would normally be expected for this time of year, so it is still necessary to be careful with water and allow reservoirs to refill ahead of next year's boating.

The other closed locks between Leicester and Foxton will also be opened during this period to allow through navigation.
