BW stops boaters using sanitary facilities

THERE was a demonstration of boaters in Ware on the Lee & Stort Navigation against British Waterways' decision to stop boaters using its sanitary facilities.

Up to last week anyone with a BW key could use the sanitary facilities at Tumbling Bay, but a sign has now been erected stating  that access to the sanitary station will be restricted after 25th February to boaters who moor locally.

Inconvenience

This is proving an inconvenience for passing boaters, prompting the demonstration and comments on the internet, but a spokesperson for British Waterways explained:

"Following persistent reports of mis-use by passing boaters and escalating cleaning costs, British Waterways is restricting use to authorised moorers by providing them with a special access key.

The nearest facilities are two miles away at Hertford Basin.
