A PRIVATE ISLAND on the Thames is up for sale.

It is Hallsmead Ait, a triangular island close to Shiplake Lock and passed by boaters cruising the river, Janet Friend reports.

ThamesIslandIt is set to be auctioned in November, if it is not sold before by Savills, who tell it is a unique opportunity to own the vacant island, which is wooded and has its own landing pontoon.

Offered without reserve

The island will be offered at an auction without reserve on 25th November, with the agents telling:

"It is one of the most picturesque reaches on the Thames, on a tranquil stretch known for its unspoiled natural beauty and had sweeping views across the water and a rich variety of wildlife along its banks."

Access of course is by boat with a dock in situ.
