IT WAS WAY BACK in September that Kelston Lock 5 on the Kennet & Avon Canal had assisted passage owing to its condition.

The end of this month will see the last passage through the lock as it will be closed for the winter, Keith Gudgin reports.

FireDamagePassages

The remaining passages through the lock will be tomorrow, Thursday 23rd, Saturday 25th and Wednesday 29th October.

Boaters will be assisted through the lock from 10am to 12 noon.

With boaters advised to take care as the lock gates are very fragile following a fire. With the weather conditions changing in the winter season and the rising water levels that occur in winter the lock will become unusable.

Explosion

It was in September that an explosion is a narrowboat caused it to sink in Kelston Lock with the resulting fire effecting the lock gates, hence the assisted passages.

It was retrieved by River Canal Rescue on the 5th of September.
