THE recent cold spell has brought more boat fires, with two  reported within the last seven days.

The one at Bourne End on the Thames took fire fighters over a hour to extinguish, needing two crews and a rescue boat to attend the blazing narrowboat.

Another narrowboat fire occurred on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at the top of Wigan Flight, with it being completely burnt-out, boater David Hurst tells us, with again fire fighters attending, though having difficulty getting close to the burning craft.

David remarks that the boat was lived it, but the owner managed to escape.
