Doubts over new marina

THE plan to construct a new marina on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal could be another that never sees the light of day.

For the land is situated on the green belt, and the local authorities have been against any development surrounding Worcester, with the exception of a a golf course, fighting the demands of house builders.

200 berths

Land & Water Estates want to construct the 200 berths marina at the bottom of Offerton Flight, just outside Worcester, believing it will be a good position for access to the junction with the Staffs & Worcs Canal.

The plans include the normal administration and shower block, car park and a footbridge, and of course landscaping. It is stated that nine jobs would be created.  And there is the usual 'extra tourism and spending' it would bring, and that it would cash-in on the boom in boating!
