Marina for the Monty?

THERE are plans for a marina on the Montgomery Canal at Queens Head on a 25 acres site.

This development, which would be close to the Queens Head pub is being proposed by Morris Leisure, and would be situated next to the Aston Nature Reserve.

However, the land is listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and knowing the attitude of the naturalists on this waterway, permission would seem to be most doubtful.

But Edward Goddard, Morris Leisure's Managing Director,  explained:

"We are very aware of the key conservation issues in this locality and shall be consulting closely with British Waterways, the Montgomery Canal Restoration Trust, Shropshire Council and other interested parties before plans for this exciting development are finalised."

The company owns caravan parks, so it is expected that a caravan site would be included.
