THE boater who was hit by a falling tree on the Grand Union Canal, as reported in narrowboatworld has died.

Wendy Brennan, 61, was struck by the falling willow tree, and forced under the water whilst steering the Wyvern Shipping hire boat near Linslade, Alan Tilbury  tells us.

Disappeared under the water

Her husband and son, were also swept into the water, but though they were able to pull themselves to safety, Wendy Brennan disappeared beneath the surface.

By the time rescuers managed to pull her out, she had swallowed a large amount of water and was unconscious, though paramedics managed to resuscitated her, and she was taken to hospital.

Newer regained consciousness

But she never regained consciousness despite the efforts of the doctors so they decided to switch off her life support machine after two days, following the many tests.

The couple were on a boating holiday with their son and his two children, aged four and seven, when the incident happened.

An inquest is due to be opened in Milton Keynes pending a post-mortem examination.
