There is little doubt that the pound on the embankment at Nantwich [on the Shropshire Union Canal] is loosing water fast, writes Frankie Holmes.
And also there is little doubt that it is getting worse, as there is a deal of water coming through the culvert, and boaters who use the pound to moor, as myself, are concerned that our boats will finish up on the bottom.
As you mention there really is a worry about the floodgates at both ends of the embankment that I believe should automatically close should there be a loss of water, but cannot, as they are padlocked open.
The Canal & River Trust intend to do any work required in the winter stoppage, but we boaters will be surprised if the culvert will last that long.
