THE SUN HAS BROUGHT OUT the floating pennywort on the Avon.

It wrapping around boat propellers and stopping boats until all the weed can be removed.

It has also made it most difficult for the boaters moored at Tewkesbury Marina, it restricting their moorings.

Limit it growth

The problem with the invasive weed in that there is no single organisation responsible for managing it across the country, but a Catchment Action Group has been formed with  local organisations, landowners and volunteers to remove and limit its growth.

Floating pennywort can grow up to 20cm a day and cuts oxygen and light from plants and fish. It is illegal to purchase in this country or grow it.

The Avon Navigation Trust plans to clear the weed over the next few weeks.
