Silting still a problem

IT WAS early January that the major storms caused floods and subsequent problems to the waterways.
But silting of the river sections are still causing problems, Keith Gudgin reports.
The Avon at Hanham Lock (1) on the Kennett & Avon is still closed due to silting.
It's top gates are jammed with the silt and rubbish that has come down river and are completely inoperable.
The trust told that dredging would take place at the end of January, but it did not.
Selby Canal
Haddlesey Flood Lock (2) is closed on the Selby Canal owing to the problem at Beal Lock that is impassible owing to silt and debris stacked-up against its top gates.
Contractors are on site with the work expected to be completed by the 15th March.
